If you encounter peaceful valleys, flowing turbulent steams and their sound, farms on terraces, turning roads, small villages by these roads and faces with innocent smiles, then you are definitely in the mountains of Uttarakhand. To experience this strikingly beautiful region on foot is truly exciting and rewarding. The village Walks take you through the small villages of Maldevta region and help you to experience it from close quarters. The walk can include passing through agricultural lands and a small patch of forest, a climb up to mountain, dipping the feet in a mountain stream or a stop for light bites enroute at a picturesque point is.
You can walk around freely and interact with the local communities, exchange stories with the elderly people over a cup of tea or help farmers working in the fields. These walks will take you through the adjoining villages introducing you to the green, rustic and peaceful life beyond the hustle-bustle of cities. Interaction with the local communities provides gaining knowledge on their lifestyle, history, culture besides learning more about the flora and fauna of the surrounding landscape. This short hike can offer a good bird and butter fly watching experience too.

The rooms of our resort have been named on the common birds found in the Uttarakhand state. The Maldevta region is a habitat of many Himalayan birds. You may drive along the cemented road, to stop wherever it looks promising (there are numerous such places) and watch the birds at leisure, or walk around the area to explore. A short distance from the resort is Kumalda village, where there are a few orchards of mango and guava which attract Plum-headed Parakeets and Slaty-headed Parakeets.
The remarkably oversized Crested Kingfisher or the small Common Kingfisher mayalso be seen. Also, spotted are Plumbeous Redstart, White-capped Water Redstart (Indira Gandhi’s favourite bird) , Spotted Forktail and Brown Dipper in winters. Crested Buntings are seen in the summer. The species of Agave on the uphill , during their bloom in June-July, attract Crimson Sunbird, Himalayan Bulbul and Orange-bellied Leafbird. Common tailor bird, white capped bunting, long tailed minivet, black lored tit, fire brested flowerpecker, greater flame back Wedge tailed Green Pigeon, Greater Yellownape, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Indian Pitta, Sirkeer Malkoha, Maroon Oriole, Wallcreeper, rock Bunting, Green-Tailed Sunbird, velvet fronted nutatch are to name a few found in this region.
Who doesn’t like indoor games. The Needam has an interactive gaming zone where you can indulge in a game of Ludo, Chess, Tic Tac Toe, Jigsaw Puzzle Game and many other board games. There is a TT table for you, Carrom board to enjoy with your friends and family.
The pool at The Needam is a natural spring water pool devoid of any chemicals used in the water. The waste water is drained daily and used to water the plants. It offers stunning views of beautiful valley. It is perfect for a refreshing dip in summers and the small shallow pool area for the kids lets them enjoy being in waters in their parent’s supervision.
Swimming shall be restricted during daylight hours. i.e., sunrise to sunset. You can even enjoy a game of aqua volley ball with your friends and family.
A short distance from the resort is the Maldevta Paragliding ground. If you want to experience the real feeling of flying like a bird this adventure hotspot will take your adrenaline to the next level. The thrill of having a 2-seater Joyride with Professional and Internationally Certified Paragliding Pilots at Maldevta can be an everlasting experience.
The Rajaji National Park is open to the public from 15th November to 15th June every year. The Needam can arrange jungle jeep safaris for its guests, which includes a 34 km safari trail. This safari is through an undulating terrain crossing through river beds and mountain for about 3 hrs.
The Needam can arrange rafting excursions for its guests. There are around 16 Rapids from Kaudiyala to Rishikesh during the rafting of 36 kms in River Ganga. There are up to grade IV types of rapid are here at Kaudiyala to Rishikesh Rafting. Grade II rapid is little fast flow than Grade I. Grade III rapids are adventurous and expert advice is needed.
We have bicycles and e-bikes for hire at our resort. Explore the Maldevta region and soak up the peaceful village life. We are lucky to be situated amongst cemented rural roads, gentle mountain slopes, streams flowing alongside and beautiful fields. Get lost in the serene area, just to find a selfie point. For a spiritual bliss, visit the eponymous temple The Maldevta, a Shiv temple shaded by mango trees from where the region derives its name. A swift flight of stairs leads to the “Swayambhu” Shivling under a tree and a stream flows underneath your feet. A short drive will take you to Sahastradhara picnic spot where you can take a dip in the sulphur laden waters.
